Activities that meet more than one day/week:

*Monday through Thursday*

The Homework Zone-Want to get that homework done and out of the way? Get help with homework and have fun in the process. You must bring homework and agenda to participate in this class. But if you do your work, you’ll have the chance to do fun group activities and even win prizes! Oct. 6 through Dec.4. Limit 12 students per day.

 

Activities that meet one day a week:

*Mondays*

Respect Club-Learn how to reach out to others who are different than you. This club will learn about the impact of violence & prejudice & discuss what they can do to stop it. Students will design & implement community action projects that increase awareness. This club is facilitated through NCBI (National Coalition Building Institute).

 

Fun With Food-Want to learn how to cook amazing cuisine from around the world? In this multi-ethnic cooking class you will both prepare and eat food from all over the world. Session 1: Oct 6—Oct 27. Session 2: Nov 3—Dec 1.

 

Skate Park-Skate at the FLIPSIDE. You need your own skateboard, pads, and helmet and parents must fill out a new 2008 FLIPSIDE waiver in the Main Office or Flagship Office (#210). Limit 7 students per session.

**A HELMET IS REQUIRED**

 

Dance-- Learn new dance moves and prepare a performance for the Parade of Lights in this dance class. This program will be a creative dance class combining jazz, hip-hop, and contemporary dance moves. Yoga will be used as a stretching routine at the beginning of each class in order to get those muscles ready to move!

 

*Tuesdays*

Drama-Learn new stage skills! Practice and play fun improvisational games with Nicole Smith and Morgan McEldery. They’ll teach you acting techniques that you’ll be able to use in your very own performance for friends and family!

 

Gardening & Cooking- Harvest AND taste organic goodies. In this class you will be doing things like making tasty food from fresh produce and learning about the healthy benefits of locally and organically grown food. Limit 8 students.

 

Advanced Art: Art of Advertising—This class for 8th graders will

analyze the art of the advertisement. Each participant will create their own work of art which will be displayed in a collaborative exhibition in our community. You will be amazed by the way ads can influence you, and how your own artistic creations will influence others as well. For 8th graders only.

*Wednesdays*

Sports Club-Get to play a variety of sports including basketball and dodge ball. This group will be riding a school bus to and from Missoula Alliance Church to use their gym with volunteer Robbie Severson. This program starts October 15th.

 

G.U.T.S. (Girls Using Their Strengths)-Be a ”Secret Seconds Superstar”! From rethreads to rebuilt...turn an old t-shirt into a cool new skirt or make your own unique treasures out of trash. Hang out with other crafty girls, learn exactly how fun, original, and talented you can be, and work to save the planet by recycling old clothes and other junk into creative works of art.

 

American Indian Club- This club will work with beads, make fry bread, hear

stories & play traditional games. Come learn about various aspects of American Indian Culture & how it

relates to Contemporary American Indians. All students are welcome!

 

Letterboxing—Like treasure hunting? Discover the amazing world of geocaching in this exciting new program. Teachers Mrs. Arnott and Mrs. Flint will guide and lead the group, teaching students how to use GPS units to find local geocaches in our very own neighborhood.

 

*Thursdays*

Fencing—On guard! Learn the art of fencing in this class. The rules and protocol of fencing will be explored and students will learn fencing advances and footwork. Amaze your friends and family with your fencing expertise!

 

Anime—Discover the art of anime and learn about Japanese culture as well. This program will allow you to learn more about the art of anime and try your hand at creating your own! Tess Langston will lead this program.

 

Knitting—Want to learn how to make your own scarf? Come learn to knit! Yarn and needles will be provided.
