SENTINEL FLAGSHIP
WINTER / SPRING 2008

 

Mondays

International Club

Explore the world from your own school. We will be watching international films, listening to presenters, going on field trips and much more in this club of cultural exploration. Meet at lunch in Room 250.

 

Sci-fi/Fantasy Club

Aliens, UFOs, and galaxies, oh my! Meet in Room 165 at lunch every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to watch sci-fi films that are out of this world.  

 

Ice Skating

Learn how to glide on the ice from an experienced instructor.  Students will meet at the Flagship Office after school and then walk over to Glacier Ice Rink.

 

Guitar Club

Jam with fellow students and two music enthusiasts from the U of M. You will need to bring your own acoustic guitar (no electric, sorry!).  Meet in the Band Room after school.

 

Youth Ultimate Frisbee League

We will be gathering after school to practice throws and play some games. Hone your skills in order to dominate the other high schools in the Spring Tournament. All skill-levels welcome. Meet at the Flagship Office.  Starts March 3rd.

 

Tuesdays

Interact Club

Join the club that collected +$7000 for an orphanage in Kenya.  Participate in service projects locally and make a difference globally.  Meet at lunch in Room 209.

 

Game Room

Claim the chess championship title of Sentinel.  If chess isn’t your forte, you can choose from a variety of board games and card games or bring your own.  Meet in Room 212 after school.

 

Peer Action Team

Students will produce a commercial countering alcohol advertising.  Receive media literacy training and learn from a skilled film maker.  Sign up at the Flagship Office.

 

Boys Lacrosse

Team up with Hellgate for practices every Tuesday and Thursday.  The team will go to tournaments across the Northwest this spring.  Beginners welcome.  Start date TBA.  Sign up at the Flagship Office.

 

Wednesdays

Wool Warriors

Make your mom the best birthday scarf ever! Knit your friend a one-piece.  Learn it all from some knit-wits at lunch in Room 112.

 

Anime Club

Join this club as we watch, analyze and compare Japanese Films. Meet after school in Room 404.

 

Bowling

Steeee-rike! Gather your friends together for an afternoon of bowling and pool.  Meet after school at the Flagship Office.

 

Disc Golf

Come find out why throwing a disc in the woods is so addictive. New comers welcome.  Meet after school at the Flagship Office.  Starts April 2nd.

 

Thursdays

Society for the Humorous Application of Mathematics (S.H.A.M.)

Not as funny as it sounds.  Meet in Room 206 at lunch.

 

Women In Transition (W.I.T.)

Be a mentor for 8th grade girls from Meadow Hill.  WIT is a leadership group that focuses on the issues effecting young women today.  Some highlights include a ropes course, high school tours, getting free messages, and making a huge difference in a girl’s life! Sign up at the Flagship Office by February 14th.

 

Poetry

Appreciate, share, and explore the depths of poetry. Students will meet with a local poet for coffee and lots of finger-snapping. Meets after school at the Flagship Office.

 

Archery

Bull’s-eye! Hit your mark at the Archery Range of Montana (1212 Longstaff St.). All skill levels welcome. Sign up at the Flagship Office. Meets at the Range after school.

 

Mountain Biking & Maintenance

Do you like getting dirty? If so, come explore the back roads of Missoula on two wheels.  We will start with trips to Free Cycles where we can tune up our bikes and even get a free bike.  After the snow melts we will hit the hills.  No experience needed and bikes can be provided.  Starts March.

 

Karelian Bear Dogs

Do you like playing with dogs? Join us after school at the Wind River Bear Institute to work with these amazing animals.  The group will meet after school at the Flagship Office.  Starts March.

Roots and Shoots

What do you want our world to look like in 50 years? If you want to work towards a better tomorrow for all life then come to Sentinel’s new Environmental Club. Meet at lunch in Room 184.

Ski & Snowboard Club

Two more trips left. Big Sky on February 23rd & one more to be decided on March 8thMeet in Room 164 on Thursdays at lunch to sign up.

 

Student Outdoor Adventure & Recreation (S.O.A.R.)

Hikes, bikes, kayaks, hot springs, and more! Pack some peaks and track your miles on foot as we explore the highest points, deepest forests, and tallest waterfalls in Montana. Students decide and plan all the trips. Where do you want to go? Meet in Room 164 on Thursdays at lunch starting in March.

Bike, Walk, Bus Week: April 21st - 24th

Pledge to use alternative transportation during B.W.B. Week and be eligible for great prizes.  We also need students to help plan activities for the week. Check with the Flagship coordinator.

 

Global Youth Service Day: April 26th

Film & Documentary Class

The International Wildlife Media Center will teach you all there is to know about film making.  Instruction culminates in the premiere of your own video at the Roxy Theater on First Friday.  Enrollment is closed for the winter.  Applications for the Fall session are available.

 

Building Futures

Build a house for a good cause with builders from around Missoula.  This is a great way to receive job training, make connections, and build up your resume.  Enrollment is closed for the winter. Applications for the Fall session are available.
