Hello! My name is Matt Keenan and I am very excited to begin working with the Flagship program here at Franklin Elementary. I am originally from northern Virginia, outside of Washington D.C., and attended James Madison University in the heart of the Appalachian Valley where I studied Spanish, Latin American history and biology. As an undergrad I spent a lot of time working in various classrooms and helped develop an after-school program for Hispanic middle school students with volunteers from my university.

After graduating in 2007 I joined the Peace Corps, where I spent almost two and a half years living and working in a rural farming community in the mountains of Nicaragua. There I was involved in various community development projects including soil conservation, stove construction and small business development. I also learned a great deal, such as how to cure coffee and dance salsa, and I developed an appreciation for rice and beans that I never thought I would.

I have been in Missoula since the summer of 2010 where I have fully taken advantage of all of the great outdoor activities that this amazing town has to offer. I enjoy everything outdoors and spend time biking, hiking, skiing, and taking my dog out to play. I also spend lots of time playing my guitar and I love making music.

I am very happy to be back working in a school, the great sense of community is not lost on me, and I can already tell that I am really going to enjoy spending time with all of the great kids here at Franklin!
