Hello! I’m Scott Mathews, the Flagship Coordinator at Big Sky High
School. A little about my self: I grew up in Mahtomedi, Minnesota, a
suburb of St. Paul. Being at Big Sky has provided me with a feeling
of déjà vu as my high school looked very similar and we too were
blue and gold with the “M” logo—in some ways, I feel like a freshman
all over again. After graduating from high school, I escaped the
Minnesota winters by attending the University of Kansas (Go Jayhawks).
I graduated with a degree in film and moved to New York City where I
worked in the music industry doing artist management and consulting
for Polygram Records for five years. In 1995, I decided to drop
everything and move to Missoula, a city I had great memories of from
the summer vacations of my youth, and to be closer to my family. My
first experience with the Flagship Program came as a volunteer in
1997. I taught a student at C.S. Porter to play electric guitar and
before our time together was over, he was a better guitar player
than I was. When an opportunity came along to work for the Flagship
Program full-time, I was excited to join the team. If you have a
skill that you think the students at Big Sky could benefit from, you
should think about volunteering with us. In the time I’ve been here
at Big Sky, I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to work with its talented
students and staff. If you’re a student, keep an eye out for the
activities we’re offering and if you’re a parent and would like to
volunteer your talent, I’d like to talk to you about it! |
