Hello, I am Leigh Metcalfe the Youth Development Coordinator
for C.S. Porter Middle School. I grew up in Henderson, NV (just
outside of Las Vegas) and after graduating from high school, I moved
to Reno to earn a BS in Environmental Science. I went on to work
with Parks and Rec. departments running summer activities for
elementary school students and saved all my money to travel. My
best friend and I traveled Europe together for several months then
we moved to Texas to work for an Outdoor Education Center for
students grades 4 through 12.
From Texas, I moved to Missoula to attend graduate school in
2003 and soon after became a volunteer for the Flagship program at
Hellgate and Willard High Schools. I was hooked; once I finished my
Master’s degree in Environmental Education I jumped at the chance to
join the flagship program as a coordinator.
Training with Lisa Beczkiewicz has introduced me to the fantastic
program that is running at C.S. Porter and the wonderful staff and
students. I hope to continue to run the diverse and exciting
programs that Porter has seen in the past and incorporate new
activities that are requested by the students. After school programs
rely heavily on the strengths and talents of the volunteers, so
please feel free to contact me if you have any suggestions or if you
would like to share your skills! |
